Prepare for 2025 subsidy changes - simplified version!

Thursday 27th June 2024

Since the Agricultural and Rural Communities (Scotland) Bill becoming law this month we have been answering a lot of questions on what to expect for 2025, much of the information published is lengthy and what clients have asked for is a simple breakdown of what they need to know which I have tried to provide below. Please note there is a huge amount of background data to support these requirements but my goal is to keep this as simple as possible.

Agricultural Reform Route Map - The simplified very basic version!

What do I need to do for 2025??

The first thing is please don't worry - there is not too much change required for the 2025 subsidies, and much of it you will be doing anyway...

1) New rules (Cross Compliance)
This relates to peatland and wetland - the simplest way is don't be digging about in it, if you are thinking about carrying out an activity on it get in touch first to check it's permitted!

2) Beef Calf Scheme (Scottish Suckler Beef Support Scheme (SSBSS)
In 2025 you will only be permitted to claim calves if the dam has calved within 410 days previously or a first registered calf to a dam. The calving interval is calculated using the ScotEID birth registration data.

3) Paperwork! (Whole Farm Plan)
You will need two of the following:

  • Carbon Audit (under 5 years old on May 2025)
  • Biodiversity Audit (under 5 years old on May 2025)
  • Soil Analysis (under 5 years old on May 2025)
  • Animal health and welfare plan (Annual Review)
  • Integrated pest management plan (Annual Review)

When completing your IACS/SAF in May 2025 you will need to declare which two you have, you will only be asked to produce these during a SGRPID inspection.

Grants are still available for the Carbon Audits and Soil Sampling.
