Moo-ving Livestock

Sunday 14th June 2020

🐑🐄Moo-ving Livestock - Paperwork needed!😏

It's the time of year for turning stock out and using seasonal grazings so here is a wee reminder what you may need to remember about!

Firstly make sure you are registered with the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) to keep livestock on that holding number (This is a common anomaly found during inspections!)

🐄Cattle - To keep it simple record the move on ScotMoves within 48 hours following the movement, or for the more organised keeper you can also pre-notify! Moves within your business do not need to be recorded on the holding register if you use ScotMoves.

🐑Sheep - Record the move with SAMU within 3 days - the ONLY exceptions are when the movement is within a 5 mile concession, moved within the crofting township - or moved to a veterinary practise. Also remember to update your holding register within 48 hours (if the keeper remains the same the number of animals can be recorded at batch level)"

Important note

The 5 mile concession DOES NOT apply to other permanent sub-codes held, if holdings are > 5 miles apart you will require separate holding registers and movement notifications.

As ever please let me know if you have any queries.
